 GALLUP POLL VOTES NURSES MOST TRUSTED PROFESSIONAL

For the eighth consecutive year, nurses have been voted the most trusted profession in America according to Gallup's annual telephone survey of professions for their honesty and ethical standards, with 83 percent of Americans calling nurses' standards either "high" or "very high."  Since being included in the Gallup poll in 1999, nurses have received the highest ranking every yera except in 2001, when fire fighters received top honors.

Rural Outreach Nursing Education (RONE) program wins Governor's Award for Best Practices!

The RONE nursing education program serving our rural hospitals and communities received the Governor's award at the Annual Workforce Development/Economic Development conference in Spokane on Oct 29. Helen Kuebel RN MSN, Nursing Director at Lower Columbia's Nursing Program, and James McLaughlin, PhD, President of Lower Columbia College, accepted the award for its innovation and responsiveness to our rural Critical Access hospitals. Still in its pilot year, the unique RONE program curriculum and faculty arrangement accommodates incumbent rurally-based workers who become LPNs, then RNs. The formal evaluation of outcomes of the program will be conducted in 2011-12.
