Position Description

The School of Nursing and Health Studies (SNHS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) is hiring a full-time (100% FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This position is state-funded, and is promotion eligible. We encourage applicants whose interests align with our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity to apply.

The faculty hired in this position will have an expectation of teaching 5 courses over three quarters during the regular academic year. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to conduct research and teach in topic areas including: social justice and health, health policy, health education, methods of academic inquiry, ethics, nutrition, nursing, or anatomy/physiology/pathology.

The base salary for this position will be $10,500 per month (9-month position), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Our interdisciplinary school provides all SNHS faculty with the opportunity to engage in creative and innovative approaches to health-related courses and scholarship. Our academic programs are poised for exciting new directions in the coming years. SNHS offers the following degrees: 1) a RN-BSN degree, 2) a Masters of Nursing (MN), 3) a BA degree in Health Studies, and 4) a Masters of Science in Community Health and Social Justice. All faculty are expected to contribute across our programs and synergize with the department’s mission, which is to advance social justice, health, and nursing practice through innovative pedagogy, research, and community engagement. For details about our curricula, please consult our website (http://www.uwb.edu/nhs).

This position will involve teaching, research, and service across our academic programs, but we are hiring with particular interest in supporting our nursing programs. Faculty in SNHS apply expertise from a range of health-related fields, including social determinants of health, nursing, health education and promotion, behavioral health, community health, social justice pedagogy, global health, and others. The candidate will be expected to engage with:

1) Diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service

2) Transformational learning, innovative pedagogy, and engaged scholarship in an inclusive and interdisciplinary culture of learning

3) Pedagogical approaches for teaching in classroom-based, hybrid and online settings

4) Community connections and outreach efforts within a community, clinical, or public health context.

The School of Nursing and Health Studies was one of the first programs established at UWB, and we remain committed to attracting diverse faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience. Our faculty are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies. Seventy-five percent of UWB faculty engage students as research collaborators, and we continue to develop community and industry partnerships to expand internship, capstone, and collaborative research opportunities for students and faculty. We offer four degrees (RN-BSNMNBA, and MS and three minors across a multidisciplinary School with expertise in a wide variety of health foci). The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus located on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, with a new 77,000 square-foot STEM building in collaboration with Cascadia College.

Qualifications

Candidates must either have, or be currently eligible for, nursing licensure in Washington State. This position requires a doctoral degree in a relevant field, or foreign equivalent. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in engaging equitably with communities through their clinical work, research and/or practice. Candidates  must have research, teaching or professional expertise in one or more of the following areas: community health nursing, evidence based practice, social justice and health, health policy and advocacy, anatomy/physiology/pathology, ethics, health education and promotion, and/or community health leadership.
