Health Occupations and Nursing is a vital academic division at Shoreline Community College. The Health Occupations and Nursing division offers degrees and certifications in Nursing, Health Information Technology, Dental Hygiene, Medical Lab Technology, and NAC. The Nursing program trains both part-time and full-time students to become Registered Nurses. The Nursing program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Reporting directly to the Dean of Health Occupations & Nursing full-time faculty collaborate with associate faculty and staff to advise students, improve student success, meet accreditation standards and fulfill Shoreline Community College’s vision, mission, and strategic plan. To support these endeavors, annual training is provided, and professional development funds are available.

We are recruiting for multiple instructor positions including those that require expertise in the following areas: medical-surgical, health promotion, and maternal child.  Typical duties include the following:

  • Provide instruction, including theory, clinical, and skills labs
  • Develop curriculum and assess program outcomes
  • Promote and provide program information to prospective students
  • Participate in accreditation, college governance, division work, and campus-wide activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in nursing from a nursing education program that is accredited by a nursing education accreditation body recognized by the United States Department of Education (or obtained by September 2021).
  • Professional active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Washington State OR ability to obtain license by within 6 months of hire
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers OR ability to obtain within 1 month of hire
  • Expertise or clinical practice in area of responsibility

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Computer applications for instructional purposes and clinical documentation
  • Teaching/Learning concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Principles of DEI as they apply to teaching and curriculum development
  • Learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technologies

SKILL IN:

  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Imparting excitement/enthusiasm into the instruction of nursing within a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) lens
  • Flexibility and willingness to teach in more than one area of the Nursing Program
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Using active learning approaches that connect with students of varying backgrounds, such as underrepresented and underserved communities, English language learners, adult learners, veterans, students with disabilities, and Running Start students
  • Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Evidencing a commitment to equitable learning access, including; costs associated with courses, universal design for learning (UDL), and the integration of culturally relevant teaching practices, etc.
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Developing/modifying curriculum collaboratively and independently that incorporates DEI
  • Working effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Connecting students to campus resources and support systems as appropriate
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:  
Work is usually performed in a clinic or a classroom that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Clinical work is performed in health care settings where the instructor assists with patient care and walks between multiple departments while advising students. Instructors use computers constantly in the work environment.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This is a full-time, tenure track position with a 172-day annual contract beginning September 23, 2021. Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with educational preparation. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
