South Puget Sound Community college (SPSCC) seeks to establish a pool of highly motivated and qualified candidates as part-time or Adjunct Nursing Professors with the ability to place student success at the center of all decision making and to be positive about supporting the development of our nursing workforce. What You’ll Do

Adjunct Nursing Professors will work with other faculty, staff, and administrators to:

  • Create and facilitate contextualized and integrated learning experiences in relation to identified college pathways that are linked to nursing career goals
  • Develop authentic assessments of student knowledge, skills, and abilities in nursing that measure course, program, and college wide outcomes; evaluate student learning in assigned setting (classroom, lab, clinical)
  • Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive and kinesthetic domains of learning
  • Support students in and out of the classroom, to include directing them toward campus services and resources
  • Be available to teach classes on a variety of days and times, predominately on pre-arranged times and dates to meet program needs
  • Select clients for students to work with before they arrive for the clinical day
  • Effectively communicate strengths and opportunities for student growth and outcome achievement
  • Implement curriculum as designed and approved; provide feedback to faculty regarding implementation of curriculum
  • Proctor examinations and other assessments as identified in syllabus
  • Continue to uphold obligations as an RN to support client and public safety in the clinical setting
  • Contribute to the technical and general education of students who will apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Support the college’s mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.  Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.

NURS 140 – Integrated Nursing Care & Assessment I – Clinical/Simulation
NURS 141 – Integrated Nursing Care & Assessment II – Clinical/Simulation
NURS 142 – Integrated Nursing Care & Assessment III – Clinical/Simulation
NURS 240 – Integrated Nursing Care & Assessment IV – Clinical/Simulation
NURS 241 – Integrated Nursing Care & Assessment V – Clinical/Simulation

Schedules may include Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays for clinical in the area, including at Capital Medical Center, Mason General, and Providence St. Peter Hospital.

Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master degree with a major in nursing or a baccalaureate degree in nursing with graduate degree work is in a related field, from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of professional experience in nursing
  • An active, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State, or eligible for licensure in Washington State
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check prior to employment
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment
  • Experience as a mentor, preceptor, clinical instructor, adjunct faculty, or other role of responsibility with pre-licensure nursing students and/or new graduate nurses.

SPSCC accepts applications for adjunct faculty (part-time) positions on an ongoing basis to establish a qualified pool of applicants. This pool is created for future part-time professor appointments to the individual program or course indicated. This announcement will serve as an open and continuous applicant pool. Appointment availability varies from quarter to quarter.
