SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor’s degrees42 associate degrees, and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Summary of position:
Instructional Support Technician II/ Simulation Technician – will provide technical support for the nursing simulation program, ensuring the smooth operation of simulation equipment, manikins, and related technologies used in the training and education of nursing students. This part-time position offers an opportunity to play a key role in advancing nursing education through hands-on simulation experiences. The position reports to the Dean of Nursing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Simulation Equipment Management: Set up, operate, and troubleshoot high-fidelity simulation manikins and other medical equipment used in the lab.
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support during simulations, ensuring all equipment functions properly, and assisting faculty and students with technical issues as they arise.
  • Simulation Lab Maintenance: Maintain and monitor the cleanliness and functionality of simulation lab facilities and equipment. Perform regular checks, calibrations, and minor repairs.
  • Scenario Setup: Assist faculty in setting up realistic simulation scenarios, including configuring manikins and equipment to meet specific learning objectives.
  • Inventory Management: Track and manage lab supplies, equipment, and consumables. Ensure that all materials are available and in working condition for simulations.
  • Training and Support: Assist faculty and students in the use of simulation technology. Provide basic training on lab equipment and software as necessary.
  • Documentation: Record and report maintenance, troubleshooting, and simulation activities. Maintain logs for equipment usage, repairs, and inventory.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with nursing faculty, students, and simulation lab team to create a supportive learning environment.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned related to the operation and enhancement of the simulation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational, technical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with healthcare simulation technology (e.g., manikins, audiovisual systems, and related software).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, medical supplies, and medical equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move simulation equipment (up to 30 pounds) and assist with the setup and breakdown of simulation scenarios and skills labs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or simulation lab is preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting students in an assistive role is preferred.
  • Associate degree in computer science, technology or medical simulation.
  • Experience with simulation equipment or technology is highly desirable.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Compensation & Work Schedule:
This position works 20(50% Full-Time) hours per week based on lab and class schedule ; schedule to be determined by the supervisor. This is a union-covered position.

As defined by the current classified bargained agreement, newly hired employees shall be placed between Step 3 $2,279.50 and Step 6 $2,561.50 of the salary schedule in Appendix A of the Classified Union Bargaining Agreement. Employees hired with an associate degree will be placed at minimum of step D. Employees hired with a bachelor’s or master’s degree will be placed at minimum of step E.  Ongoing (Step G- Step M) step advancement is defined by the classified bargained agreement. (Per current bargained agreement, Instructional Support Technicians are scheduled to work when classes are in session. As a result, actual salary may fluctuate depending on number of days worked). 

Salary placement for current classified employees is per the classified bargained agreement.
